GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

Gresham police arrested a Sam Barlow High School student after he was found on the school's roof with two guns and ammunition.

Police say on Saturday night during the "Snowball Dance," students alerted administration that there was a suspicious person on the roof near the student parking lot.

School Resource Officer Jeff Culp went up to the roof to investigate and confronted the person. Officer Culp determined the person was an underage SBHS student.

During the investigation, Officer Culp found out the student had two unloaded handguns and handgun ammunition. Both handguns were seized by police.

Police say the student was cooperative and said he was there to provide security to ensure the safety of the students at the dance.

According to police, while the student did not express a plan to hurt anyone, he was arrested on multiple weapon possession charges and lodged at a Multnomah County juvenile detention center.

Gresham-Barlow School District says the investigation is ongoing and they are working with the Gresham Police Department.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call Officer Jeff Culp at 503-258-4864.
