PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Drivers saw winter conditions in northwest Portland Monday, which caused some people to abandon their cars.

A Portland Bureau of Transportation spokesperson said Northwest Germantown Road between Skyline and Bridge Avenue was shut down for most of the day due to abandoned cars. The road was reopened late Monday night.

PBOT reports crews will apply anti-icers and monitor the road overnight.

Kayla Driessner works at Skyline Restaurant and said she fears freezing rain.

“When I drove today, I couldn’t see a few feet in front of my car,” Driessner said. “It was a wall of fog all the way up.”

PBOT advises drivers to take it slow and to carry chains in areas above 500 feet.

PBOT adds, if abandoned cars block the streets, they are subject to be towed at the owner’s expense.
