WOODLAND, WA (KPTV) -

Deputies are hoping to contact people who knew a 62-year-old homicide victim as part of the ongoing investigation.

Donald "Donny" Howard was found dead inside his burning home on the 2000 block of Dahlia Street at 4:30 a.m. Nov. 22.

An autopsy determined Howard died of blunt force head injuries and his death was ruled a homicide.

No suspect information has been released. The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office said they continue to actively follow up on leads and, "We will remain open minded about motives of this crime and we will take the investigation where the evidence and facts lead us."

"While we decline to be specific, we are encouraged with some of the initial results that we have received from the crime lab," according to a sheriff's office statement.

Investigators said Howard was known to frequently fish on the Lewis River near the hatchery and sell his homemade lead fishing weights. He would often pick up cans and trash along the river and on the road.

He usually drove a dark-colored Ford Ranger pickup that had a canopy.

Anyone who knew Howard or anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office at 360-577-3092 or the Woodland Police Department at 360-225-6965.

Tipsters can remain anonymous be using the Tip411 app.
