Several earthquakes strike off N. California coast; no tsunami expected

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A series of earthquakes hit off the coast of northern California Thursday morning.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the first quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8, occurred at about 6:50 a.m. and was centered about 102 miles west of Eureka.

That quake was followed by two others within a 100 km radius, including a 5.2-magnitude quake at about 8:30 a.m. and a 4.9-magnitude quake about a minute later.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said it did not expect a tsunami on the coasts of California, Oregon or Washington.

There were no immediate reports of damage from the quakes.
