PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police said a 65-year-old restaurant worker walking home in southeast Portland died after he stepped out into traffic and was hit by a car.

Emergency crews responded to the 8700 block of Southeast Division Street at 9:04 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said Rohgzhao Zhang was crossing Division Street from the north to the south about a half block from a controlled, lighted crosswalk when he was hit.

Police believe he was walking home after working at a nearby restaurant.

The 19-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said he did not show any signs of impairment and there was no evidence of distracted driving.

The investigation is continuing and, once completed, will be presented to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.

This was the second deadly crash on Southeast Division Street involving a car and pedestrian Wednesday night.

Another person was hit and killed just before 7 p.m. on the 15600 block of Division Street.
