Many schools close around Portland metro due to icy conditions

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Icy road conditions forced several school administrators to close schools around the Portland metro area Friday morning. 

The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory that will remain in effect until 10 a.m., and weather experts expect the roads to thaw out by late morning with temperatures reaching the low 40s. 

Several schools are closed Friday including Portland, Beaverton, Tigard-Tualatin, Hillsboro, Forest Grove, and Sherwood school districts. For the full closure list, click here.

Folks in the Columbia River Gorge can still expect cold and snowy conditions throughout Friday. Snowfall amounts are expected around 4 inches with winds gusting up to 25 mph.

TriMet officials said all buses are running on snow routes Friday morning. Commuters should expect bus and MAX delays throughout the morning.

C-TRAN said due to icy conditions, the Camas Connector has suspended its service. Route 47 is on snow routes but all other buses are operating normally with some delays. 

Portland Streetcar service on the A and B Loops has been suspended due to ice accumulation on the wires and vehicles. The NS Line service has resumed along 10th and 11th Avenues only.

Drivers are advised to take is slow on the roads and to make sure to give cars extra stopping distance.
