Small earthquake recorded near Mount St. Helens

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A shallow earthquake occurred near Mount St. Helens early Friday.

According to the United State Geological Survey, the earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.2 occurred at about 1:50 a.m.

The quake was centered about 20 miles southeast of Morton and occurred at a depth of about three miles.

There were no reports of injuries or damage from the quake.

The earthquake did not appear to be a sign of increased volcanic activity under Mount St. Helens. USGS said all of the volcanoes in the Cascades, including St. Helens, were showing normal levels of background activity.
