TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) -

As snow and ice began to slowly melt away in the Portland metro area Friday, treacherous conditions continued to pose problems for people in the Columbia River Gorge.

Interstate 84 was backed up for at least a mile entering the Gorge at Troutdale.

Truck drivers were seen chaining up their semis in the pouring rain.

Due to hazardous conditions and possible black ice, the Oregon Department of Transpiration was requiring chains for trucks towing trailers at the Cascade Locks reporting station.

Drivers heading east on I-84 from the metro area were told to expect heavy congestion and delays as the right lane was used for drivers to chain up their vehicles.

An ice storm warning will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Saturday for western parts of the Gorge, with another one-quarter inch to three-quarters of an inch of ice expected to accumulate on the roadways.
