PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police returned dozens of handbags back to a small Portland business after a thief broke into a van and took them Sunday night.

The East Precinct of the Portland Police Bureau said via Twitter that an officer had stopped a driver overnight at Southeast 97th Avenue and Stark Street.

The man was in possession of what appeared to be 60 new and handmade bags, according to East Precinct officers.

Police said the driver could not explain why he had the handbags. Officers then realized all the bags still had price tags on them.

Officers determined that the bags belonged to the Appetite Shop + Studio, a small boutique located on East Burnside Street.

The owners told police their van had been broken into earlier that night.

All the bags were returned and the suspect was arrested.
