PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The Portland Bureau of Transportation says it could be two more days before Northwest Cornell Road is opened back up after last week's ice storm brought down trees and a small landslide that is blocking part of the road.

The slide is near the entrance to one of the tunnels along NW Cornell. Crews from several different agencies have made their way up Cornell to assess the area to make sure it is safe.

As of Monday night crews say the area appears to be stable.

Approximately 50 cubic yards of debris was brought down by a tree covered in ice.

“I think a lot of the circumstances were the trees had a lot of weight on them with the snow, ice, and in some of the cases, brought a little bit of soil with it and that’s probably what happened on Cornell,” Portland City Engineer Steve Townsen said.

Across the city Portland, Portland Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry division and PBOT had received reports of around 260 distinct locations impacted by downed trees since last weeks storm.

By midday Monday, Urban Forestry crews had addressed more than 160 of those reported.

“This is one of the most impactful weather events for trees in Portland at least for the last decade,” said PP&R Public Information Officer Mark Ross.

In a news release Portland Parks listed several areas still impacted by downed trees.

  • Forest Park -- the Newton Road entrance to the park is closed due to large tree blocking road and parking lot. Gate will remain closed at top of road until situation is safe for entry.
  • Hoyt Arboretum -most trails continue to be unsafe due to down wood and overhead hazards. Many trails have yet not been fully assessed at this time. SW Fischer Lane and SW Bray Lane are still closed.
  • Washington Park roads -- all roads leading into and through Washington Park are now OPEN as of 12:33 December 12, 2016.
  • Washington Park archery range is CLOSED pending a full inspection for ice/road conditions and downed trees.
  • Vietnam Veteran's Memorial is impacted by a number of downed trees and branches. Visitors are urged to use extreme caution at this time. PP&R staff expect to address this area by Tuesday morning, December 13, as capacity and circumstances permit.

Anyone who has a new issue with a hazardous tree in the city right-of-way is asked to call 503-823-TREE.
