NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

Newport police arrested the same man twice for DUII in a five hour span Saturday night.

Police said at 8:45 p.m. Sergeant Purdom pulled over Paul Frank Brinkerhoff, 53, on Highway 101 near Agate Beach after receiving a driving complaint on his vehicle.

According to police, Brinkerhoff showed signs of impairment. He consented to and failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Brinkerhoff was arrested for DUII and taken to Lincoln County Jail. He was released to a third party who picked him up at 1:08 a.m.

About 40 minutes later, Sgt. Purdom saw Brinkerhoff's vehicle traveling northbound on Hwy 101, about a mile north of the first traffic stop.

Police said Sgt. Purdom pulled the vehicle over as the vehicle was unable to maintain its lane of travel.

According to police, Brinkerhoff was behind the wheel and the driver who picked him up from jail was in the passenger seat.

Brinkerhoff consented to sobriety tests and failed again.

Brinkerhoff was arrested and lodged in the Lincoln County Jail for DUII. He is also being charged with reckless driving. His bail is set at $45,000.
