GRANT COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A deputy with the Grant County Sheriff's Office is accused in court documents of assaulting his wife and pointing a gun at her.

The Oregon State Police arrested 25-year-old Joseph Allen Hutchison on Sunday. He faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another, assault in the fourth degree and menacing constituting domestic violence.

Hutchison, who is a corrections deputy at the Grant County jail, was booked into the Baker County Jail. He was released after an arraignment on the condition that he not contact the alleged victim, and not use intoxicants or possess firearms.

Court documents say that Hutchison physically injured his wife and pointed a pistol at her at their home in Grant County.

Grant County Sheriff Glenn Palmer said Hutchison was hired as a deputy in June. Palmer told FOX 12 that Hutchison is now on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case, adding that Hutchison was booked in the Baker County Jail to avoid a conflict of interest.

The Baker County District Attorney will be prosecuting the case.

This is not Hutchison's first brush with the law. Court records show he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and minor in possession of alcohol in 2012.

In 2010, he was charged with a misdemeanor for failing to appear in court, although the case was later dropped.

Hutchison is expected to appear in court January 12 to face the domestic violence charges.

According to Baker County Jail staff, a mug photo of Hutchison was not immediately available.
