DOUGLAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

An 86-year-old Beaverton woman was killed in a single vehicle crash in Douglas County Monday afternoon.

Oregon State Police say Nancy J. Meyen was driving a 2005 Lexus passenger car on Interstate 5 near milepost 80 when she drifted off the roadway, struck a tree, and her car caught fire.

OSP said several passersby stopped to try to put out the fire and remove Meyen before first responders arrived. First responders arrived on scene and removed Meyen before the car was consumed by the fire.

Meyen was pronounced dead at the scene.

A medical condition or the possibility Meyen fell asleep before leaving the roadway are being considered as contributing factors to the crash, according to OSP.
