KLAMATH COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A 56-year-old from Silver Lake died after a head-on crash on Highway 31 in Klamath County Monday after another driver attempted a U-turn.

Oregon State Police troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene near milepost 8 at 1:20 p.m., where preliminary investigations showed a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup entered onto the highway from Sun Forest Drive in an attempt to make a U-turn.

The pickup then collided head-on with a 1994 Dodge Colt being driven south on Highway 31. The driver of the Dodge, Scott J Lane of Silver Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, 83-year-old Jerry J Roche, received minor injuries in the collision and was taken to a hospital in Bend for treatment.

OSP troopers had the entire highway closed for around an hour, followed by a single lane closure for an additional two hours, for an investigation. They were assisted by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office, La Pine Fire Crescent Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
