PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland Public Schools was among the districts to announce closures for Thursday after a snowstorm brought traffic to a halt throughout the metro area Wednesday.

The Beaverton, Hillsboro, Sherwood, Tigard-Tualatin, North Clackamas, Lake Oswego, Oregon City, Gladstone, West Linn-Wilsonville, Parkrose, Gresham-Barlow, Salem-Keizer, Evergreen and Vancouver school districts were among the others that announced canceled classes for Thursday.

CLOSURES: Updated list of school closures and cancellations

The decision to cancel classes for Thursday came after many districts chose to remain open for a full day as a snowstorm hit the metro area Wednesday.

The result left many students stranded at their schools into the evening hours Wednesday, as buses were stuck in traffic or unable to navigate icy roads.

Traffic in and around Portland was gridlocked by Wednesday's storm, with lengthy delays on all highways and major roadways.

The storm was expected to drop 1 to 3 inches of snow throughout the metro area. Even though the storm will have passed, the snow will remain on the roads Thursday morning, according to FOX 12 meteorologists.
