There might be plenty of drivers stranded on the road because of the bad weather, but some students in the North Clackamas School District were also stuck Wednesday evening.

It was certainly a snow day the students will never forget, though they probably wish they would have been at home to enjoy it.

Clackamas High School student Stephanie Maestas sent in pictures to the FOX 12 newsroom and said nearly 50 students were stuck in the building.

The district said at one point hundreds of students were stuck at the middle school. District officials claim that because of dangerous driving conditions, they were not able to take student home by bus.

As time passed, frustration grew among students and parents. Maestas spoke to FOX 12 from the school about how her fellow students were reacting to the long day.

"Most of us were pretty frustrated and pretty mad,” she said. “We were upset and one of my friends, she had a light lunch, so by the time we got to that point, we were very hungry, very upset. We didn't know why they didn't just let us out early."

Students outside of the school told FOX 12 they were surprised their school day wasn't canceled or at least cut short.

"Our school didn't let us out on an early release, so we stayed after. And at about 2 o'clock it started snowing lightly, and we didn't think it was going to be bad,” student Vivian Ngo said. “And then around 3:30-ish, it started pouring snow, and we were all stuck in here.”

The district posted on social media Wednesday evening that students were safe and watching a movie. School staff remained on site with the students, and the kitchen staff even cooked up some food for the kids.

Many parents were still trying after 9 p.m.to get to the school pick up their children before starting the long drive home.
