SHERWOOD, OR (KPTV) -

Two teens who stole a car were caught cold and wet after spending five hours running from officers in icy conditions in Sherwood, according to police.

Sherwood police stopped a car for a minor traffic infraction at 4:30 a.m. and learned the car was stolen. During the stop, the two teens in the car ran away.

Officers and K-9 teams, with assistance from police in Tigard, Tualatin and King City, searched the area as the suspects jumped over fences and ran through multiple neighborhoods.

Officers said the suspects checked several car doors and wiped snow off of car windows as they ran, presumably looking for another car to steal.

The formal K-9 search was called off at 7:30 a.m. At 9:45 a.m., however, officers spotted the suspects sitting at a bus stop near Southwest Railroad Street and Washington Street.

Police said the suspects saw the officers drive by and immediately tried to hide in a nearby business, but they were taken into custody.

Police said one of the suspects is 13 years old and the other is either 17 or 18 years old.

Their names and charges have not been released.

Police said they were wet and extremely cold after being in the elements for more than five hours. They were placed in front of heaters at the Sherwood Police Department and given food as they warmed up and dried out.

Investigators believe they broke into multiple cars overnight, before stealing one. Police have taken numerous theft reports in connection with this investigation and are working to return stolen property.

The stolen car was returned to its owner.
