CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Quick thinking by a Clackamas County Sheriff's deputy saved the life of a man after he crashed his vehicle during a medical emergency.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office say at 4:16 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Jodi Westerman responded to a traffic crash in the 17000 block of Southeast 82nd Drive.

A 60-year-old man driving a 2004 Nissan pickup suffered a medical emergency and collided with a 2002 Hyundai two-door in the middle of SE 82nd Drive, while the Hyundai was stopped in heavy traffic.

The driver of the Nissan was unconscious and not breathing.

Deputy Westerman quickly responded to the scene and dragged the unconscious man out of the pickup and gave him CPR. She then used an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

CCSO says within four minutes of Deputy Westerman's arrival, the AED had restarted the man's heart.

Deputy Westerman stayed with the man until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to a local hospital where is he recovering.

The driver of the Hyundai was not injured in the crash.
