PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A water main break closed down a section of Southeast 82nd Avenue Thursday night. The closure is expected to last through noon Friday.

Portland Fire & Rescue said the water main break is near Southeast 82nd and Southeast Ellis Street and happened around 8 p.m.

The main is an 8-inch cast iron pipe from 1912. Because the pipe is old, the break is likely weather-related.

Morning crews had to deal with some slippery roads as the cold temperatures turned some of the water gushing from the pipe into ice.

Portland Water Bureau said about 90 services on Ellis Street between 78th and 82nd avenues will have their water shut off so crews can make repairs.

Crews searched throughout the night for the break in the pipe. It was finally located around 8 a.m. Friday morning.

The volume of the water gushing from the pipe suggests significant sections of the pipe will need to be removed or replaced.

Southeast 82nd is closed from Southeast Reedway to Southeast Foster as crews work to fix the water main break. Crews plan to have the road closed through noon Friday.
