BEAVERTON, OR (KPTV) -

While this week’s weather has been a big hassle for drivers, it means big business for local body shops.

Damaged cars are starting to trickle into Heitzman Body and Paint in Beaverton. Employees are working on everything from front-end fender benders to door dents and warped wheels.

Heitzman is a fourth generation family business, and they've been through this rush of storm-damaged cars before.

Manager Danielle Bedford says the real crunch will come next week after the snow melts and people are able to finally get out and about.

For drivers with cars that are still drivable and with just cosmetic damage, Bedford suggests waiting until after the holidays to get it fixed. Otherwise, he said, drivers should be prepared to leave their cars for a couple days or more, adding that its is important to choose a repair shop with a good track record.

“It's just kind of pandemonium,” he said. "People may not have ever been in an accident, they're not sure what to do. And so patience is very necessary during this time."

To ensure that the repair work goes smoothly, Bedford advises drivers to make sure to have all of their insurance information ready, especially the claim number.
