DALLAS, OR (KPTV) -

The Oregon State Police have released more information about an officer-involved shooting that happened Friday outside of the Walmart in Dallas and left one man dead.

Troopers said that their preliminary investigation shows that three Dallas police officers responded to a report of a man intoxicated in the parking lot of the store around 5:26 p.m.

The officers attempted to take the man, 36-year-old Jeremiah N Anderson, into custody for driving under the influence of intoxicants. OSP investigators said Anderson resisted then fired as many as two shots, hitting one of the officers, Sergeant Rob Hatchell, in the leg.

Hatchell and Officer Mike Fleming returned fire, hitting Anderson who was pronounced dead at the scene. Another officer, Officer Aaron Mollahan, was also on scene, and neither Mollahan nor Fleming were injured in the incident.

State investigators said they recovered Anderson’s firearm at the scene of the shooting.

Hatchell was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and has been released. All three officers have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into the shooting, which is the standard procedure following such incidents.

The Oregon State Police are coordinating the investigation into the shooting and are working with the Dallas Police and the Polk County District Attorney's Office.
