PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

The intersection of Southeast Foster Road and 82nd Avenue was reopened Sunday after a water main broke there Thursday and sent thousands of gallons of water gushing into the street.

The rupture flooded the area on 82nd Avenue near Foster.

On Saturday, construction crews had a wide swath of 82nd Avenue torn up as they worked to fix the damaged 100-year-old pipe.

Officials say about 35 homes in the area were left without water.

Engineers believe the cold weather and shifting earth caused the main to break.
