PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A naked man walked into a stranger's home in northeast Portland and sexually assaulted a woman attending a housewarming party, according to court documents.

Police responded to the home in the area of Northeast 26th Avenue and Killingsworth Street at just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

Officers were told a man unknown to anyone at the party was completely naked when he walked inside and approached a woman.

A probable cause affidavit states the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Robert Roy Engelsman, groped the woman, lifted up her skirt and pressed himself against her.

Numerous people in the home ran Engelsman out of the house, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The affidavit states police found Engelsman hiding in a nearby SUV and he had squirted lotion all over the cloth seats of the vehicle.

Engelsman told officers he had sniffed glue and drank malt liquor before getting hot and taking off his clothes. Court documents state he heard a woman's voice in the house that reminded him of his ex-girlfriend, so he went inside and wanted to have sex with her.

Engelsman was arrested on charges including sex abuse, attempted rape, burglary and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle. He was arraigned Monday and is scheduled to appear in court again July 5.

Engelsman wrote a letter of apology to the victim from his holding cell, according to a probable cause affidavit.
