In less than two months, a total solar eclipse will be visible across the U.S. for the first time in almost a century – and retailers are taking advantage.

In 1918, a total solar eclipse crossed the United States from Washington state to Florida. This event marked the last time such an eclipse crossed the nation from coast to coast. Come August, a total solar eclipse will follow a similar viewing path.

From special wine made by Willamette Valley Vineyards to a new stamp from the United States Postal Service, the upcoming eclipse has businesses cashing in on merchandise opportunities.

FOX 12’s Mark Nelsen is gearing up for the Aug. 21 eclipse and found a T-shirt for the occasion.

Other eclipse products include maps, patches and even a luggage tag

While most items for sale are commemorative, anyone looking directly at the eclipse will need one thing: a pair of viewing glasses.

According to NASA, the “only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters.”
