SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

A dog with two prosthetic legs has completed a cross-country journey to his new home in Oregon.

His name is Nubz.

Nubz had a hard start to life, but has since made national news and has now found a happy ending in Salem.

Jim Havlinek adopted the chow chow-husky mix after reading a story about the pup on Facebook.

Nubz was rescued from a puppy mill in New York, where his mother chewed off his hind legs.

Nubz was facing euthanasia, until a rescue group stepped in.

Thanks to a team of foster parents and donors, the dog found a temporary home in Pennsylvania and got his first prosthetics in Virginia.

His cute boots and resilient spirit garnered national attention. He's now on his third pair of artificial legs.

"To see his progression, he doesn't think anything is wrong with him," said Havlinek. "He just deals with stuff."

Havlinek drove across the country to adopt Nubz. Now, the dog is settling into his forever home in Salem, and playing with his new brother Winston while also continuing to receive treatment including hydrotherapy and acupuncture.

Havlinek said he is seeking therapy dog approval for Nubz, with the hope of bringing the dog to children's hospitals to visit kids who have prosthetics.
