DAMASCUS, OR (KPTV) -

The Clackamas County SWAT Team and a K-9 were able to arrest a man who barricaded himself inside a Damascus home after threatening his family with an ax.

At about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 18000 block of Southeast Sunnyside Road in Damascus.

According to investigators, the caller said her brother, 35-year-old Mario Reyes-Orozco, was on drugs and was threatening the rest of the family with an ax and trying to hit them with it.

Deputies arrived and were able to get family members safely out of the home. They attempted to contact the suspect at the home, but he closed and locked all the doors and refused to communicate with deputies.

Deputies say the suspect had armed himself with a variety of weapons, such as the ax and a fireplace poker. Due to the suspect’s erratic nature and reports that he was under the influence of drugs, the SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiations Team were called to the scene.

The SWAT team was forced to enter the home to arrest the suspect and also sent in K-9 Grimm. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect would not surrender and hit Grimm with a pipe until SWAT team members were able to take him into custody.

Reyes-Orozco was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of a dog bite, which he received during his altercation with Grimm. After that, he will be taken to the Clackamas County Jail.

Grimm has some swelling from being hit with the pipe and will be evaluated for injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, Reyes-Orozco will face charges of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and interfering with a law enforcement animal.
