PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A bicyclist is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car in northeast Portland late Tuesday night.

The Portland Police Bureau said officers responded to the scene at Northeast Cully Boulevard and Killingsworth Street around 10:41 p.m. on the report of a crash involving a cyclist and a vehicle.

Police and medical personnel arrived and began treating 51-year-old Alberto Canche-Mukel of Northeast Portland. The Canche-Mukel was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver involved in the crash, 34-year-old Ramon Benton of Northeast Portland, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

According to police, Benton was headed east on Killingsworth in a 2004 Honda Accord when he entered the intersection with Cully and collide with Canche-Mukel, who was riding north. Investigators noted that Benton did not show any signs of impairment or distracted driving.

PPB’s Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is continuing the investigation, and no citations have been issued.

The intersection of Cully and Killingsworth was closed for several hours during the investigation.
