CRATER LAKE, OR (KPTV) -

A 20-year-old Florida man died after he fell up to 70 feet down a steep cliff in Crater Lake National Park.

The incident happened around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday when the man walked onto a rocky point and the rocks broke loose. He fell about 50 to 70 feet down into the caldera.

Rangers rappelled down and confirmed the man had died from injuries he sustained in the fall.

Park staff would like to remind people that climbing or hiking within the caldera is not allowed due to extremely hazardous conditions.
