Crews battle huge house fire in NW Portland; two firefighters sustain minor injuries

Posted: Updated:

Crews with Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the scene of a two-alarm house fire in northwest Portland Wednesday evening.

According to TVF&R officials, the fire started in an outbuilding at a residence in the 13000 block of Northwest Milburn Street.

When crews arrived, they found the fire had quickly spread from the outbuilding to the house.

Two residents were home when the fire broke out and safely evacuated along with two dogs.

Firefighters began aggressively attacking the fire and had to upgrade to a second alarm.

Neighbor Michelle Lopez was frantic, concerned her new home right behind the one on fire might go up in flames.

"I haven't even moved in yet, I bought the house on the 21, the first day of summer," said Lopez. "I'm feeling really blessed right now but very concerned for the neighbors."

Just after 7:30 p.m. TVF&R said firefighters had extinguished the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the home on NW Milburn and protected nearby homes.

Lopez thanks the heroic efforts by the people around her for saving her home.

"Everyone was just back here taking turns grabbing hoses and, you know, saving my house and saving my house from getting burnt down," said Lopez.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for assessment.

Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
