Judge recommends class-action status for Title IX lawsuit against Lake Oswego schools

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

There has been a significant development in the Title IX lawsuit against the Lake Oswego School District.

A federal judge is now recommending that the suit involving the girls’ softball team be given class-action status.

In a written opinion filed late last month, Magistrate Judge Stacie F. Beckerman agreed with the original plaintiffs, saying the district "isn't doing enough" to provide girls with the same resources as boys who play baseball.

She recommended the suit include all of the female students at the school and all future female students.

Since the original lawsuit was filed last April, the school installed a moveable pitcher’s mound, bases and outfield fence.

Parents say that's only creating a safety hazard, though, and is not fixing the problem.

The district has until July 13 to file motions objecting to this ruling.
