Security video shows suspect taking lug nuts from often-hit car lot

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A southeast Portland car dealership that says it deals with break-ins on a regular basis just got hit again this week, though this time the suspects only made off with some lug nuts.

The incident on July 4 was all caught on surveillance video.

Employees at Auto Lane on Southeast 82nd Avenue said a couple walked into their lot after it was closed. The man walked around, looked in windows and tried to steal the wheels and tires off a Cadillac Escalade.

Lot manager Don Nutt said the suspect removed all the lug nuts but didn't have a jack to take the tires. Nutt also said this has become a reoccurring problem.

“We’re having to walk the lot every morning just to see what has been taken and tampered with. It’s unfortunate,” he said. “They’re taking out windows, they’re taking out tailgates, they’re taking off wheels, they’re taking off bumpers, tow packages – it’s like a parts department. It’s like people know we have all these nice trucks and are coming to get what parts they need.

Auto Lane has seen many burglaries like this one in the past, and a manager told FOX 12 in December that they have at least six burglaries a year.
