Make-shift 'tiny house' still parked outside NE Portland woman's home

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

It was supposed to be long gone by now, but a trailer two men are calling home is still parked outside a northeast Portland woman’s house.

Leah Clause has been hard at work, trying to make sure the trailer parked right beside her home vanishes.

“I’m not going to stop until it’s gone,” she said. “I thought maybe there would be a chance I would have a weekend free from all of this for me and my kids.”

Clause said the trailer showed up with two men living inside a few weeks ago, and since then, she said she has been left her feeling nervous, scared and unsafe.

She said after calling the city, the mayor and police about her new neighbors, officers arrested one of the men.

Police said Jordan Bilyeu was arrested Thursday for an outstanding warrant, which records show stems from drug-related charges.

Clause said the one man that remains and the trailer were supposed to be gone by noon Friday.

FOX 12 asked the remaining man, Michael Patterson, why the trailer, which he calls his tiny house, is still in the same spot. Patterson said it was his partner, Bilyeu, who promised Clause they would leave and that now that his partner is gone, moving the trailer alone has proven difficult.

“I don’t necessarily have the construction knowledge my partner has and, obviously, the space right now to move it to,” he said.

Patterson also said the make-shift tiny house, which is decorated with rugs and art, has a purpose in the Cully neighborhood.

“It is my wish to complete the build while my partner is away, to show not only him but the entire neighborhood that there has been a purpose of being here, and we are able to show them when that happens,” he said.

Portland Bureau of Transportation officials did tell FOX 12 that they are working closely with police to address the situation and that a tow warning was issued on the trailer Friday morning.
