KELSO, WA (KPTV) -

Deputies have narrowed down the timeline from when a missing 91-year-old Kelso man was last seen and when his car was discovered near Mount St. Helens.

Wilford “Ray” Johnson was last seen on his daily walk in his neighborhood between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. June 29. His car was spotted by a group of young men at 6 p.m. that night in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, which is more than a two-hour drive from Johnson’s home.

Family members said there is no reason that Johnson would have driven to that location.

The car was abandoned with nobody around. The witnesses reported seeing the car later when they saw social media posts about Johnson’s disappearance, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives and members of Johnson’s family reviewed surveillance video from June 29 at the Dollar Tree store on in Longview, where Johnson was a regular customer, but it was not clear if Johnson went there that day.

A Dollar Tree employee did remember seeing someone who looked like Johnson at around noon that day.

Detectives are sending letters to fast food restaurants that Johnson typically visited in hopes of reviewing their surveillance video, as well.

Deputies searched for days around the area where Johnson’s car was found, but did not locate any sign of him.

Johnson is 5 feet 11 inches tall and 180 pounds with blue eyes. He is balding with white-gray hair on the sides. He usually wears a “Seabee” hat.

Johnson is described as fit for his age.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 360-577-3092 and reference case A17-2008.
