PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Law enforcement is searching for a 16-year-old boy who escaped from the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Facility.

The teen was discovered missing from the northeast Portland detention center Saturday night.

He escaped from the facility’s detention yard, which is a common courtyard area, at around 8:45 p.m.

He was booked last Wednesday on pending theft charges. The teen did not have a previous criminal record.

Based on his history, Multnomah County Juvenile Detention authorities do not believe the teen is a risk to the community.

His name is not being released at this time.

“It is the Multnomah County Department of Community Justice's practice not to release names or photos of juveniles whose cases have not been processed through the court system, who are not facing Measure 11 adult charges or who are not believed to be a public safety risk,” according to a statement from the department.

The escape remains under investigation.

"We are conducting a comprehensive review of the incident and our security protocols to determine how the youth was able to leave the facility and changes necessary to prevent this from happening again,” said Department of Community Justice Deputy Director Truls Neal.
