Portland Parks and Rec kicks off Summer Free Lunch + Play program

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

When school is out for the summer, thousands of Portland kids who rely on free and reduced-price school lunches face hunger every day, but the Portland Parks and Recreation Summer Free Lunch + Play program is looking to end that.

The program offers free concerts and movies in Portland parks all summer, as well as lunch and play recreation programs for kids.

This year’s program kicked off with the Free For All Field Day Celebration at Mt. Scott Park Monday, where kids got to see a Transformers semi-truck, enjoy a free lunch, participate in an open mic and talent show and play games.

The program is expected to distribute more than 110,000 free lunches to Portland kids throughout the summer.
