A large house fire caused significant damage to a neighboring car dealership in Milwaukie Tuesday morning.

Clackamas firefighters were called to the scene in the early morning hours near McLoughlin Boulevard and Holly Avenue.

The structure was reportedly vacant and bordered the family-owned Volstice Auto car dealership. Crews said accessing the fire was challenging due to a fence and several cars parked on the property. Firefighters said they had to rip out the fence to get to the flames.

The vacant home was completely destroyed. Dealership owner Seamus Lennon said 13 car vehicles were burned and several others have paint damage.

No injuries were reported and fire investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause.

Lennon said his surveillance cameras captured the intensity of the fire.

"“It was pretty intense, a really hot fire. It seemed to have burned for a good 40 minutes or so before it was even called in,” he said.

Although the cause is unknown, fire crews said they have responded to multiple fires at the home. Lennon said he also believes someone has been consistently staying in the home.

"Less than a year ago it actually burned pretty much through the roof, and it was uninhabitable at that point, but the guy is still hanging out in there," he told FOX 12.

Joe Foster lives nearby and manages the property that burned. He told FOX 12 that a man who once rented the home had since been squatting there. Foster said he had been unsuccessful in forcing the man out but hoped law enforcement would step in after this incident.

"All of us, everybody in the neighborhood, we'd really like this guy to go."
