Portland police respond to man asleep on TriMet bus with gun

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau responded to reports of a man asleep on a TriMet bus with a handgun showing in his waistband Tuesday morning.

TriMet contacted officers regarding the rider on a bus headed north in the area of North Willamette Boulevard and North Greeley Avenue just after 9 a.m.

The driver evacuated the bus and police began making attempts to contact the man, who initially remained unresponsive.

The Special Emergency Reaction Team was called to the scene to assist with the response.

Around 9:45 a.m. the man responded to police and exited the bus. The man, identified by police as 18-year-old Edgar I. Sanchez, was taken into custody.

Sanchez was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and faces charges of second-degree disorderly conduct, interfering with public transportation, unlawful possession of a firearm and delivery of a controlled substance for consideration.
