Missing 6-year-old boy hit, killed walking on Interstate 5 near Albany

A missing 6-year-old boy was hit and killed while walking on Interstate 5 near Albany.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a report that the boy was missing from his Albany home at 9:33 p.m. Monday. Four deputies and a K-9 team were immediately called out to search the area.

Oregon State Police also assisted the Linn County Sheriff’s Office in attempting to locate the boy.  

At 9:55 p.m., troopers were called to the scene of a crash involving a commercial motor vehicle and a pedestrian on I-5 near Milepost 230, about three miles south of Albany.

Police said the person involved in the crash was identified as the missing child. The boy was pronounced dead.

Investigators said at least one commercial motor vehicle struck the boy and two other vehicles may have been involved in the incident.

Police said there is no indication of wrongdoing by the drivers and they are all cooperating with the investigation.

No other details, including the boy’s name, are being released at this time by police.
