GILLIAM COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A Gresham woman was thrown from her car and died in a crash on Interstate 84 in Gilliam County.

Emergency crews responded to the highway near Milepost 118 at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said 22-year-old Effie P. Burns was driving a 1996 Honda Civic west on the highway when she lost control in the fast lane, crossed over into the slow lane and left the road.

The car came to a stop against a dirt and rock embankment.

First responders attempted life-saving measures on Burns, but she died from her injuries.

An infant passenger was properly secured in a child safety seat in the car. Police said the child was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.

No other details were released Tuesday by police.
