Low income apartment complex opens in SW Portland

Posted: Updated:

A new apartment complex opened Tuesday in southwest Portland aimed to serve low income families.

The Hill Park Apartments will offer 39 new affordable units in the Lair Hill neighborhood. Local non-profit, Central City Concern, is backing the development.

The complex will cater to low income renters who work and live in downtown Portland. It will also offer specialized help for those needing mental health services.

"We want to get more units on the market, and make sure that once people are able to stabilize their lives and gain employment, they have permanent housing in the community that's close to where their jobs are. And this kind of project does just that," said Sean Hubert with Central City Concern.

The three-story building is on the edge of Portland's southwest downtown area, close to public transportation, parks and shopping.
