The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners approved the consolidation of the Fairview Police Department and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Thursday’s approval means the sheriff’s office will begin providing law enforcement services to the city of Fairview on Aug. 1.

The Fairview City Council previously voted to merge the law enforcement services on June 21.

All current sworn and civilian staff of the Fairview Police Department will transfer from the city of Fairview to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office during a swearing-in ceremony on July 31.

As part of the agreement, the sheriff’s office will utilize the Fairview Police Department facility for sheriff’s office operations. Ownership and maintenance of the building will remain with the city of Fairview.

“The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is pleased to welcome the experienced officers and staff of the Fairview Police Department, as we continue to build on the long standing history of service this agency has provided to the citizens of Fairview,” according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office supervisors will be available 24 hours a day as part of the expanded service level for the city of Fairview.
