MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

A car rolled backwards into the yard of a Milwaukie home Thursday night after police say a drunk driver forgot to put the car in park.

The Milwaukie Police Department said officers were called to the scene of the incident near Southeast Harrison Street and Southeast 36th Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

Police said 68-year-old William Lee Lawrence crashed into a parked vehicle on Harrison Street. Lawrence exited his car but forgot to put it in park.

The car then rolled backwards down Harrison Street into a nearby yard, destroying a fence and street signs and severing a NW Natural gas line.

Crews from Clackamas County Fire and NW Natural assisted in shutting the gas off and fixing the broken line.

Police said no witnesses or tenants were injured.

Lawrence was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He faces DUII charges.
