PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A veteran will be able to get into his backyard for the first time in two years thanks to the help of some volunteers.

Volunteers from Home Depot and Catalyst Partnership helped transform the home of 89-year-old Bill Palmer Thursday.

Palmer is a retired U.S. Navy Veteran who lives in northeast Portland. He and his wife Barbara Jean enjoy gardening, but due to his disabilities, he has been unable to get into his backyard.

Now with the help of volunteers, Palmer can once again access his yard.

They are building ramps, replacing gutters, installing carpet on the deck and doing landscaping.

Catalyst Partnership is a grassroots movement to help neighbors who need help with home repairs. To learn more about the organization or the more-than 170 projects they have completed in Oregon and Washington, visit CatalystNW.org.
