PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Thousands of people enjoyed a day on the Willamette River Saturday for “The Big Float.”

The river was packed with tubes drifting down the river. Many tried to get front row seats for live music during the event.

Organizers said they could see up to 4,000 people meet at the newly-opened Poets Beach.

“Just to chill out, have fun. Soak up some rays have fun with our friends. Just an awesome Saturday,” said Carol Menton.

“The Big Float” benefits the human access project.

Organizers said the idea is to enjoy the river and promote the river's healthy development.
