Police: Theft suspect hits man with truck in N. Portland

Portland police are searching for a man who allegedly threatened another man with a machete and then struck him with a pickup truck in north Portland.

The Portland Police Bureau said they were called the 8100 block of North Columbia Boulevard around 5:38 a.m. Monday on the report of a security guard being assaulted by a suspect.

Officers said the alleged guard confronted a man who appeared to be stealing items from Rose Auto Wrecking.

According to police, the guard and the suspect were involved in a brief struggle during which the suspect displayed a machete.

The security guard backed away from the suspect. The man then returned to his truck and drove into the guard.

The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

FOX 12 spoke to the victim's girlfriend at the scene. She said. they both live in a trailer in the front parking lot of the property.  

"I'm glad he's okay. He could have killed him," she said. 

Police describe the suspect as a black or Hispanic man driving a black late 1990s Nissan pickup truck with possible front end damage and no rear license plate. The truck also has plywood sheets that extends the length of the truck bed. The truck was last seen carrying chairs.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call 911.
