ODF: Wildfire near Clatskanie ‘fully contained’

CLATSKANIE, OR (KPTV) -

The Oregon Department of Forestry reported Monday morning that the wildfire burning in logging slash and standing trees along Highway 47 near Clatskanie has been fully contained.

There are still around 50 firefighters mopping up the fire, which spread just over 29 acres before it was contained.

The fire was first reported midday Sunday, and it closed a 10-mile stretch of Highway 47 and crews fought the fire. No structures were threatened by the blaze.

In addition to the ODF crews, firefighters from Clatskanie, Scappoose, Vernonia, Washington County, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, Mist-Birkenfeld Rural Fire Protection District, Knappa Fire District and Columbia River Fire and Rescue also responded.

Investigators will be arriving Monday morning to begin an investigation into the cause of the fire.
