PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 26-year-old woman who police said was hit in the street outside of a southeast Portland bakery where she worked has died.

Erin Catherine Brenneman died Friday in an area hospital where she had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash, which happened on June 22.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau said Brenneman was struck by a hit-and-run driver not far from the Hungry Heart bakery she managed in the Montavilla neighborhood.

The bakery posted a photo of Brenneman on Instagram Monday morning discussing her death and thanking customers for the support they showed the employees and Brenneman’s family.

On a GoFundMe page started by Brenneman’s family, her brother shared a statement from the family, which read in part that Brenneman was “at peace, in no pain, and surrounded by friends and loved ones,” adding that the support shown to them during the “terrible situation has been truly humbling.”

The police are still investigating the incident and released a photo of a truck they believe to be similar to the one involved in the crash. The vehicle is described as a dark-colored mid-‘90s full-sized pickup, and investigators note that there may be minor damage to the center of the grill or front bumper from the crash.

Investigators ask anyone with information on this incident please contact Officer Phil Maynard by phone at 503-823-2216 or by email at phillip.maynard@portlandoregon.gov.
