(KPTV) -

Fire crews had a difficult time containing a brush fire that sparked between two homes in Tualatin Monday night.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews were called to the scene around 9:45 p.m. along Southwest Cowlitz Drive.

Crews said a fast-moving fire sparked in a green area that bordered two homes. Firefighters said the blaze proceeded down a near-vertical embankment, making it difficult to access. An active railroad track, moderate winds and poison oak also hindered their progress.

TVF&R crews aggressively attacked the fire for nearly an hour before declaring it under control. The fire burned an area approximately 100 feet by 140 feet.

Firefighters and police believe the fire was sparked by two kids lighting off an illegal Roman candle style firework.

Crews would like to remind residents of the dangers of illegal or improper use of fireworks.  Visit TVFR.com for more information.
