CANNON BEACH, OR (KPTV) -

Cannon Beach police said they will be posting warning signs along the local beaches due to recent reports of shark sightings.

The Cannon Beach Police Department said there have been several recent sightings of dorsal fins in the area.

Ocean goers and surfers are urged to be cautious and to be aware of the warnings. Although they are rare, shark attacks have been known to happen along the Oregon Coast.

A man was bitten by a shark while surfing at Ecola State Park in October 2016.
