Cannon Beach testing solutions for parking problems

CANNON BEACH, OR (KPTV) -

Anyone who has ever tried to find a parking spot in Cannon Beach on a weekend, especially in the summer, knows just how hard that search can be

An increase in tourists to Cannon Beach has been causing a parking headache in recent years, something that city leaders are aware of and are trying to address.

They have been working this summer to research possible solutions including adding time limits on parking spots in certain areas of town and expanding public parking with different lots.

Officials decided during a City Council meeting on July 10 to delay trying out the time limits until after the summer season.

Visitors to the beach Wednesday told FOX 12 that spending a little time finding parking is something they’ve come to expect at the beach.

“I expect it to be crowded, but I have always found a place,” Bend resident Marilyn Larsen said, adding that she has learned to look for options other than street parking.

Another option in the city’s strategic plan is determining if more spots can be added by restriping existing lots to make them more efficient.

The city has posted a map to parking in the downtown and beach areas on the city website at CI.Cannon-Beach.OR.US.
